How to Test a Balm Update Before Playing
Use a copied instance and a small feature checklist to evaluate a dependency update. Learn more about Balm Mod.
Set a working baseline
Record the current game, loader, Balm and dependent mod versions before updating. Confirm that the original setup launches, and note the features you intend to test. Duplicate the instance or create a complete backup. Use copied saves for testing so you can return to an unchanged world if the candidate files do not work together.
Test a controlled change
Update the files required by your planned compatible set. Keep unrelated changes out of this test so the result is easier to interpret. First check startup and any dependency messages. Then open a disposable world and exercise the dependent mod feature that matters to your pack. For a server pack, include a server startup and client connection check in a separate test environment.
Keep evidence and a rollback
Record which checks passed and preserve relevant logs if a check fails. Successful startup alone cannot prove every interaction works. If the result is uncertain, restore the complete previous set instead of continuing an important save. When the candidate succeeds, keep a record of the tested files with the new backup so future changes have a clear baseline.
