Identify the target setup

Confirm Minecraft Java Edition, the exact game version and the loader used by the selected profile. Find the active instance directory through the launcher. Check which installed or planned mod requires Balm and record its dependency range. This establishes the requirements before you compare download candidates.

Check the selected file

Choose a published installable mod JAR for the same game version and loader. Compare the release against the dependent mod's requirements rather than relying only on its publication date. Confirm the download is complete and keep source archives separate. If Balm is already installed, inspect whether that version satisfies the requirement before replacing it.

Prepare and finish safely

Close the game and back up the instance, especially important saves and configuration. Keep old dependency files outside the live mods folder. After installation, launch the same profile and inspect any dependency messages. Test the affected feature in a disposable world, then record the working versions so the next update starts from a known setup.
