Balm Mod and Performance: What to Expect

Understand the difference between a required library and a performance mod. Learn more about Balm Mod.

Know why Balm is installed

Balm supplies shared functionality for mods that depend on it. Its presence in a pack does not establish that it is an FPS optimization or that installing it alone will make the game smoother. Decide whether you need it by checking the requirements of your chosen mods, rather than by treating a dependency as a general performance upgrade.

Compare a stable workload

If you investigate performance after a pack change, use comparable settings, the same test world copy and a repeatable route or interaction. Record which files changed. Changing the game version, graphics settings and several mods together makes it difficult to identify a cause. Keep a working backup before evaluating an unfamiliar combination.

Investigate the complete pack

Look at the full environment when a performance problem occurs, including resource usage, settings and the features being exercised. A library name appearing in a log is not a measurement of its performance impact. Keep observations concrete and share reproducible steps with the appropriate project if your controlled test points to a particular interaction.
